Way back when – in the Apostle Paul’s time, email and text messaging hadn’t come on to the scene… oh, how nice that time must have been.  So, if you wanted to chat with someone who was a distance away, you had to, get ready for this, write a hand-written note and then find a way to get it hand-delivered. What...without the help of planes, trains, or automobiles?  Wow, what a novel thought.  And as if all of that wasn’t hard enough already, imagine being in prison on top of it! Well that was Paul’s scenario as he penned this important letter to the Church of Philippi. 

I’m so glad that Paul went to all that trouble, because his message is one of appreciation and encouragement to his loyal friends. He thanks them for their witness and their sharing of the Gospel, and urges them to continue living the Christian life: “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ”. He talks about spiritual maturity, standing firm, and rejoicing in Christ.
